Sparta Academy completed the 2015 season with a 8-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class A region one, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Sparta Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Chambers Academy by a score of 22-12. The Warriors won as many games as in any season since 1997. The Warriors last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Sparta Academy has gone a combined 30-37. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sparta Academy has managed to compile a record of 118-149. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class A and 27th in the AISA. The Warriors are led by head coach Justin Chandler who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-9 over the past two seasons at Sparta Academy. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Chandler. Coach Chandler's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 14-9 (60.9%). The Sparta Academy Warriors will play in Class A region one during the 2016 season. The Warriors should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Warriors open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Wilcox Academy on Friday, August 26 at Stuart McGehee Field. Last year the Wilcox Academy Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fourth place in Class AA region one. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Edgewood Academy by a score of 48-6. Sparta Academy and Wilcox Academy have met a total of 29 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 9-18-2 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2015 with Sparta Academy winning by a score of 30-8. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
